Today, through new product development, technology, and acquisitions, Libbey is a leading provider of tableware products to the foodservice industry. It manufactures and distributes a broad range of glassware, dinnerware, flatware, and back-of-the-house products to restaurants, bars, hotels, nightclubs, healthcare, educational and penal institutions, caterers, airlines, cruise lines, and country clubs. Libbey has its roots in East Cambridge, Massachusetts, home of the New England Glass Company which was founded in 1818. William L. Libbey took over the company in 1878 and renamed it the New England Glass Works, Wm. L. Libbey & Sons Props. In 1888, facing growing competition, Edward Drummond Libbey moved the company to Toledo, Ohio. The Northwest Ohio area offered abundant natural gas resources and access to large deposits of high quality sand. Toledo also had a network of railroad and steamship lines, making it an ideal location for the company. In 1892, the name was changed to The Libbey Glass Company.Libbey became part of Owens-Illinois in 1935 and with O-I's progressive management and commitment to R&D, Libbey thrived. In June of 1993, Libbey strategically positioned itself for the future by becoming a public company. Since then, Libbey has fulfilled its promise to provide the largest selection of tabletop products for foodservice and consumer markets, purchasing Syracuse China in 1995, World Tableware in 1997, Traex and Royal Leerdam in 2002, Crisal in 2005, and Crisa in 2006. Comments about Libbey 17 oz. Gourmet Mugs - 6 pack:
I had a set of these long ago & was looking for replacements for ages. You'd think large clear coffee mugs were easy to find, but they are not.
These are great. Super large capacity (17oz) for a large hot drink, or even a cup of soup. Easy to clean, & you can see all the contents so there are no surprises at the bottom of the cup! Nice to put out for company, & great for the kids for Hot Chocolate with mounds of whip cream! As far as cons, you do need to be careful using them in the microwave as they are glass, & they dont fit it all cupholders, but otherwise I would recommend them for sure.
