Crafted with a rich mahogany look, this chest is adorned with a detailed kylix shaped urn. The urn copies a detail on a Baltimore demilune sideboard table, circa 1800, in the Colonial Williamsburg collections. The Fitzhugh Silver Chest carries on the old Southern tradition of displaying handsome knife cases on the sideboard. Its name pays tribute to the 17th-century Virginia silver collector William Fitzhugh, who outfitted his plantation house with a "handsome cupboard of plate" (as sterling was called). Holds 150 pieces of flatware.
